Dear Sir/Madam,

I am emailing to inform you of an upcoming run in Cork on Wednesday 16th November at 7.30pm to raise funds for the Mark Pollock Trust. I hope that the members of your Triathlon Club will be interested in participating. Below is a message from Piers White, Head of Fundraising.

Kind regards,

Karen Meehan

_______________________________________________________________________________

Piers White is my name and I would like to bring to your attention an upcoming event that I think would be a great event for all athletes to get involved in.

Mark Pollock is a truly inspiring individual. Having lost his sight at the age of 22 Mark has never let that hold him back. He took hold of his life and never looked back competing in the world’s harshest environments across desert, mountain, ocean and polar regions including 6 marathons in 7 days in the Gobi Desert, a race to the South Pole, and the Round Ireland yacht race; all this despite being completely blind. He was also an international oarsman. He made his living as a motivational speaker around the globe and inspired many people to think about how to face challenges and make decisions.

Having overcome his blindness tragedy struck again on the 2nd July 2010 when Mark fell from a second story window and suffered a catastrophic spinal injury which has left Mark paralysed from the waist down.  The following clip is of an interview with Mark conducted by the BBC six months after Mark's accident. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-12314687 The past year has been incredibly difficult for Mark and while he has dealt with every emotion he is determined not to rest on his laurels. You can check out Mark's blog at www.markpollock.com/blog/blog.asp   He has done a lot of research to find out what he could do and
was in hospital for 15 months. He has just been released and is now following a programme of aggressive physical therapy in an attempt to regain any feeling or movement that he can.

To raise funds for his rehab programme which will require frequent visits to America and a facility called Project Walk, friends of his  have set up  'Mark Pollock Trust' and are organising the fundraising 5km/10km run -
www.run4mark.com  - that will take place
simultaneously in Dublin, Belfast, Cork and Galway on Wed 16th Nov @ 19:30 as per the attached flyer. And we would really like to get you involved in the Cork run.....

We would really like as many runners/athletes as possible to join us and take part in the event and spread the word through their networks. We have flyers, sponsorship cards and posters etc.. The cost of the event is €25 per person for this very wothwhile cause.

Thanking you.

To whom it may concern,

We are looking to recruit swimmers to take part in the Tiburon Mile open sea swim on the 9th September 2012 in San Francisco Bay. It would be greatly appreciated if you would be able to promote our event on your website. Do you have a noticeboard you can place a poster on if we send one out to you? If you know of anyone who may be interested please could you get them to contact Brenda Mahon at Special Olympics (01 8912000 or tiburonmile@specialolympics.ie). The minimum sponsorship required is €3,000 (this includes your flights, accommodation and race entrance fee) and will raise much needed funds for Special Olympics Ireland. It is the most prestigious international open water swim event in the world and if you are a keen swimmer looking for a challenge this is an amazing opportunity. Many thanks for your help.

Kind Regards,

Cleo Brooks
